  The Asian Regional Energy Initiative of the IEI

The International Energy Initiative (IEI) is a non-governmental, public-purpose international organisation, established with the purpose of promoting clean and efficient production and use of energy for sustainable development. This involves in-house analysis as well as networking regionally and globally with groups and institutions concerned with energy and development.

Southern-conceived, Southern-led and Southern-located, this South-North partnership was formally incorporated as a not-for-profit organisation in September 1991. The office of its President was then situated in Bangalore (India). In 1992, the Asian Regional Energy Initiative (REI), under a regional Director, was established, and its office located at the same premises. The baton has been passed to new Presidents, but the Asian REI continues to function from its original location in Bangalore.
